LITTLE HANDS WRAPPING BANH CHUNG – TOUCHING THE SPIRIT OF TET

Some of the best Tet memories don’t come from candies or new clothes. They begin with the fragrant scent of dong leaves, the pristine white of glutinous rice, and the moment a child first wraps a cake of their own. With the desire to bring the traditional flavors of Tet closer to children, Ba Thien Kindergarten organized a special experiential activity: “Little Hands Wrapping Banh Chung” This was more than just a lesson; it was a place where Tet was felt with the heart.

A Journey of Tradition and Discovery

In a space filled with the colors of Spring, the children gathered around their teachers, listening intently to the legend of “Banh Chung, Banh Giay”. Wide eyes and innocent questions about the square shape of the cake and the meaning of filial piety showed that the seeds of tradition were naturally taking root in their young souls.

Under the gentle guidance of their teachers, our “little artisans” began their creative journey:

  • Cleaning the Leaves: Tiny hands meticulously wiped each vibrant green dong leaf.

  • Measuring Ingredients: Learning to balance layers of white rice, yellow mung beans, and savory meat.

  • Wrapping with Care: Practicing how to fold the leaves and tie the bamboo strings to make the cakes nice and square.

Though their movements were still a bit clumsy and the cakes might not have been perfectly shaped, they were filled with intense focus and a passion for learning. Through this, the children learned valuable lessons in patience, sharing, and teamwork.

Small Gifts, Great Values

The moment the cakes were finished, joy radiated from their beaming faces. Holding their handmade creations, the children did more than just learn about traditional cuisine-they felt the true value of labor. Happiness is sometimes as simple as an excited shout: “Teacher, look! I made a Banh Chung all by myself!”

Through this activity, we hope to:

  • Help children fall in love with national culture through hands-on experience.
  • Develop cognitive thinking and fine motor skills.
  • Nurture gratitude and family bonding as they bring their handmade gifts home to their parents.

For the students at Ba Thien, Tet is not just a holiday; it is a warm memory woven from simple, meaningful moments. These seeds of character will quietly grow, accompanying them throughout their journey of adulthood.
